St. Barths Bucket Regatta 2024: A Spectacle of Sailing and Glamor
The St. Barths Bucket Regatta 2024 starts on March 21st and runs until March 24th. Each year since 1995, when the first St. Barths Bucket Regatta took place, dozens of superyachts descend on St. Barths to compete for the Bucket.
The first Bucket Regatta was held in Nantucket, Massachusetts in 1986, with only a few yachts sailing around a hastily prepared 15-mile course. From that small competition, more yacht owners wanted to prove themselves on the high seas, and soon the race became a yearly event.
St. Barths added its own yacht sailing competition in 1995 and now attracts yacht owners the world over to see who can sail the fastest. A spirit of competition and camaraderie was formed in the early days in Nantucket, and today, the St. Barths Bucket Regatta is the premier event to test the sailing ability of yacht owners everywhere. The winner of the Bucket Regatta is presented with the Bucket, a trophy that has become the symbol of excellent sailing all over the world.

The Bucket Regatta Race
Over the years, the Bucket Regatta of St. Barth has expanded to allow non-racing yachts and other vessels in the waters around the island to sail and socialize with some of the owners of the best superyachts on the planet. In 2024, sailing or motor yachts can apply to join the festivities this year. There will also be an added class of boats on the water for the race. A new, 100-foot Racing Class has been added for 2024, for performance sloops over 100 feet long that normally would be excluded from the race.
The race itself takes place over three days, with three separate races for classes of boats. Each day between March 22 and March 24 will have a race with different boats cruising through the race markers. There are also receptions for the owners of the yachts and the crews of each vessel in the races.
The Variety of Classes at the St Barths Bucket Regatta
There are three racing classes for all vessels in the St. Barths Bucket Regatta in 2024, plus a non-racing, ‘social’ class for those who want to sail at a more leisurely pace. The Corinthian Spirit Class has only a few vessels with experienced captains, the highest competition race. The 100-foot class and the 90-foot class refer to the length of the boat and attempt to put similar vessels racing against each other.
The annual race attracts all kinds of yacht owners to St. Barth’s every year to see who can sail their vessels the fastest in a beautiful tropical setting. If you happen to visit St. Barths during this time, expect to see a multitude of fancy boats in the harbor, with exciting races by day and lavish celebrations at night. Many events around the Regatta are open to the public and are meant to be inclusive of everyone on the island at the same time as the Regatta.
Social Events Around the St. Barths Bucket Regatta
There are many official and unofficial social events near the St. Baths Bucket Regatta 2024. Many restaurants and bars often throw their own festivities on the island in honor of the event, and the event has some official social activities where you can hear about the race and the vessels entered.
Friday afternoon, on March 22nd, Bucket Bar opens near the start of the festivities. It is open to everyone who wants to catch a glimpse of the vessels in the race to hear about the race and other announcements. The daily awards ceremony for the winners each day will be held there and usually get underway at 5 pm local time.
On Saturday, the annual Bucket Bash takes place, where everyone involved in the race can party and mingle. Then there’s the final awards ceremony on Sunday, March 24th, and the big end of the race party.
